11/2 "Seasoned Vets" - A B.A.R.T. Narrative

 "Seasoned Vets" - A B.A.R.T. Narrative

We need the seasoned vets to usher in the youth of today. How can we expect our youth to do anything when we either haven't shown them or gave them bad examples to follow. If we're not going to teach them then we can't be angry when they fail. The youth today aren't being raised with the same morals and lessons that our ancestors were brought up with. They need guidance desperately. You don't have to be someone's mother or father to be their mentor or to just show them you care. Sometimes all it takes is a few words of wisdom ti change a child's mind, others may need repetitive involvement. Either way, if we all took 5-10 minutes out of our day to drop some knowledge on these kids, what will we really lose? Nothing. Now think about what we could all gain? Less violence, less drug abusers, better educated people... With that, the possibilities are endless! And most importantly, we will have a generation that will value human interaction, personal relationships and helping others. Sharing knowledge and values will then be passed on to the following generation.

Wrote this after transferring at the MacArthur station, saw a few teen aged boys trying to write on the train wall with a pen. I kept wondering if these kids we're good at drawing, writing or graffiti. And how they could advance their skills by doing it in a productive manner.
